Director Notes for October 2019

1. Congrats!

2 students auditioned for Southwest ACDA – results announced by end of October

27 students are entered to audition on Oct. 12 in the first round of All-State auditions.

2. FITs

Every Tuesday – All-State Treble music

Every Thursday – All-State Tenor/Bass music

Every Friday – All-State - ALL/Make up attendance – worksheets need to be completed for each day missed.

3. Letter Jackets arrived and were handed out a few weeks ago

Garment bags and Duffle bags will be handed out next week

Yard signs have not yet arrived, but will be handed out as soon as they arrive

T-shirts arrived and will be handed out this week

Formal uniforms:

We are re-organizing our inventory. This is a lengthy process. Some uniforms have been sent

home. Others are being ordered and all should be assigned and sent home by early

November.

4. Six Flags Fiesta Texas Trip

A separate email went out earlier this week with details about our Choir Spring Trip to Six Flags Fiesta Texas. TOMORROW is the hard deadline for deposits to come in toward this trip. We cannot accept additions after that point. A payment schedule will go out next week.

5. Fund Raiser

We will be starting our first fund raiser of the year in a couple weeks. It’s popcorn. Students make 50% profit. All money is to be collected up front. Checks get written to: AHS Choir Boosters. We will have a two week window that students can sell. The profit students raise can go towards their fair share fee or their trip costs.

6. Choir events coming up quickly:

Oct 7 & 8 – First Round of Musical Auditions - Any student interested.

Oct 9 – Nov. 1 – Musical Callback Auditions

Oct 10 - Murchison Fall World Music Concert – Northwest Hills Church – 6-8pm

Oct. 10 – Chorale sings at the Anderson Homecoming Football Game

Oct. 12 - Region auditions – Bowie H.S. – only students entered (NEED 2 CHAPERONES)

Oct. 27 – Choir Halloween Party – location TBD - 8:30-10:30pm

All current choir students invited.

Nov. 6 – Texas Renaissance Festival – Madrigals – all day

Nov. 8 – Region Clinic – AISD PAC – 10am-1pm – students who make Region Choir

Nov. 9 – Region Clinic/Concert – AISD PAC – All day – Concert at 5pm

Nov. 10 – Musical Orientation

Nov. 12 – Pre-Area Auditions – Anderson – 5-11pm

Nov. 14 – FOLLIES Dress Rehearsal – 4:45-10pm – all choir members REQUIRED

Pizza will be provided. Students will have time to work on homework.

Nov. 15 – Follies Morning Performances for the 5th graders of our feeder schools

Nov. 15 – FOLLIES Show – 7pm – All choir members – REQUIRED

6pm call for singers – Tickets will be sold for this performance.

Nov. 16 – FOLLIES Show – 7pm – All choir members – REQUIRED

6pm call for singers – Tickets will be sold for this performance.

Nov. 17 – FOLLIES Show – 2pm – All choir members – REQUIRED

1pm call for singers – Tickets will be sold for this performance.

7. Murchison Fall Concert – Thursday, October 10

We would love to see some Anderson choir students in attendance supporting this program.

8. Region audition details:

Students – make sure to check the information posted next to the choir office regarding changes and specifics for our area. We are area E.

Region auditions:

When: Saturday, Oct. 12

Where: Bowie H.S.

Who: 27 students were entered

Other details:

7:10am – arrive at Anderson near theater

7:15am – SHARP – bus leaves for Bowie H.S.

8:15am – registration ends

8:30am or so – warm ups and run through cuts received that morning

9-9:30am – approximate start to contest

Students will be provided with a snack bag. However, concessions will be available.

Students are allowed to leave once they’ve competed. However, the bus will come

back to Anderson when the contest is complete.

Students should bring homework or a book to read. Electronic devices are not allowed

during the contest!

NO CELL PHONES! All phones will have to be turned off and put away as soon as

students enter the building. If a student needs to call home, they must go to the

Call Table with a turned off phone, ask them if they can call home and stand

in front of the call table to call a parent. When they are done, the phone must

be turned off.

Eligibility does affect participation in this contest! Students who failed cannot compete!

9. FOLLIES 2019 – Woodstock

3 shows: Nov 15 & 16 at 7pm and Nov 17 at 2pm – all are required for choir students.

These are the only concerts of the year that we sell tickets.

STUDENTS – All choral music for the show needs be memorized by the end of next week!

10. Musical auditions are coming up next week

We hope several of our choir students will be involved in the musical “Guys and Dolls”. Sign up for an audition day by the theater – choose Monday or Tuesday of next week.

11. Choir Halloween Party – Oct. 27 – 8:30-10:30pm – location TBD

All current choir students invited. Costume contest, fun, food and games.
