David Beussman is currently in his 12th year as Choir Director at Anderson High School. Prior to his current position, he taught middle school choir in the Austin ISD for 12 years (9 of those at Murchison). He received his Bachelor of Music Degree from Luther College in Decorah, IA where he was a member of the Nordic Choir for three years and studied under Weston Noble. David is a member of ACDA, TMEA and TCDA. He has four beautiful daughters, a senior at U.T. Austin, a sophomore at the University of North Texas, one in kindergarten and a 20 month old, and just celebrated the eight year anniversary of being married to the love of his life.
Before joining AHS in 2018, Meredith Phillips taught private voice lessons for eight years in London and Dallas. She also spent one year with Richardson ISD in Dallas teaching elementary music. She received her Bachelor of Music degree from The University of Texas at Austin in 2010, where she sang with the Concert Chorale, Chamber Singers, and Bach Cantata Project, which made appearances at both TMEA and ACDA. Additionally, she student taught at Anderson from 2009-2010, with David Beussman and Phil Ajjarapu. Upon her commencement, she moved to London to pursue a Masters degree in Musicology from King’s College. She joined St. Luke’s Choir in Chelsea, under the direction of Jeremy Summerly, and sang as “choral scholar” in 2011. It was singing here that she met her love and later married in the same church. Additionally, she received a Masters in Vocal Performance from Trinity Conservatoire and participated in two masterclasses in Hungary with countertenor Nicholas Clapton, with whom she also received voice lessons at the Royal Academy while studying at King’s. She resided with her spouse in southwest London through the birth of their first child and moved to Texas in 2015, where her son was born shortly after. In 2018, she (with they) finally made her way back to Austin! She and her spouse are proud parents of a 5 year old daughter and 4 year old son. She is so thankful to start her second year with the families that make up AHS choir, whom she has quickly grown to love.
