Director’s Notes for February and early March 2022
Oh my, time is flying! I hope everyone is doing well. I want you to know that I love working with your students. They are working hard to learn how to combine their voices to make something bigger. While we’ve missed students here and there and missed entire days here and there, the students are growing individually and collectively as musicians. Sorry, this email is getting out late this month. I look forward to all the events coming up!
1. February and March choir events:
Feb 9-12 – TMEA Convention
Jamie Antonacci & Kara Moy singing in the All-State Treble Honor Choir!
Feb 17 – Anderson Pre-UIL concert – in Anderson theater – 7pm (6:15pm call)
Feb 26 – Solo & Ensemble Competition (Region level) – McCallum H.S. – all day
Specific time slots are posted in the choir room.
Details will go out shortly to those participating.
Feb 28-March 3 – SWACDA Convention – Gracie Torgerson singing in Treble Honor Choir
This is a seven state region and great accomplishment!
March 1 – Chorale sings at Combined Pre-Madrigal & Chamber Festival Concert with 5 other
area High Schools at Hope Presbyterian Church – 6:30pm
March 4-5 – Madrigal & Chamber Festival – San Antonio, TX – all day – Chorale Choir students
Details going out separately regarding this.
March 7-8 – Choir UIL – Hays PAC – all students – times TBD
2. Pre-UIL Concert – Thursday, February 17 (TONIGHT) – This is a graded, mandatory concert for the students. It is also our shortest concert of the year. It should last approximately 45 minutes. We will also have directors in the audience critiquing the choirs as they are on stage.
3. Solo & Ensemble Contest: February 22 at McCallum H.S.
Students DO need to be memorized for this contest. Time slots posted in choir room. I sent a very important google form to the students that I need filled out TODAY. More details coming later in the week.
4. Chorale ONLY – Pre Madrigal & Chamber Festival Concert with 5 area high schools – Tuesday, March 1 - 6:30pm
7th period Chorale students will sing a concert at Hope Presbyterian Church as a sharing concert for their upcoming competition. This is a free concert and open to the public.
5. Chorale competes at Madrigal & Chamber Festival – University United Methodist Church in San Antonio, TX – 2:30pm on Saturday, March 5
These 35 students will be competing against some of the top choirs in the state!
I sent a google form about this event that I need filled out by every family! Please do this today!
6. Choir UIL Evaluation– Hays PAC – Monday, March 7 & Tuesday, March 8
UIL large group evaluation is early again this year! The students have been working hard in preparation for this event. A detailed email will go out as soon as I receive our time slots.
7. Looking ahead - Choir Banquet – Sunday, MAY 22
I want you all already thinking about our choir banquet. This is a celebration of everything we’ve done throughout the year and we want EVERY student and many parents to attend. This year, our banquet will be at the DoubleTree Hotel just up the street.
The choir banquet will be held 7-10pm on May 22. More details will come soon.
8. Fair Share Fee final installments are overdue.
Individual emails will be going out soon. Please take care of this promptly. Additional time and payment plans are always available.
