Director Notes... april 2019

1. NEW Spring Concert date!

We had to move our spring concert because of a district conflict. AISD Salute was recently put on May 16. Therefore, we have moved our spring concert to MONDAY, MAY 13. It will be here in the Anderson PAC.

2. Congratulations to our choirs!

Chamber choir competed in the Madrigal & Chamber Festival – received Superior ratings and was selected as a ‘Performance of Distinction’

Four choirs competed in U.I.L. large group competition:

Tenor/Bass Choir – Received Excellent Ratings

Treble Choir – Received Superior Ratings, earned Sweepstakes Trophy

Varsity Treble Choir – Received Superior Ratings, earned Sweepstakes Trophy

Varsity Mixed Choir – Received Superior Ratings, earned Sweepstakes Trophy

3. SLO tests coming up

2nd period – takes their test on Friday, April 5 during class

5th period – takes their test on Friday, April 12 during class

4. Choir Placements for 2019-2020

We will be doing our placements for next year’s choirs in 2 weeks. This will happen during classes and is not done in front of other students. This evaluation consists of the students singing their part within a song, a pitch matching component and a sight reading component. This is then combined with an evaluation of the student’s class participation and growth throughout the year as well as their grades to determine the best place for each student to be placed.

5. Choir Auditions for Chamber Choir & Madrigal Singers

Any current 9th, 10th or 11th grade choir student may audition to be in these choirs. Auditions will consist of 2 parts. First, tudents will sing their voice part while other students sing their voice part on an a cappella madrigal song. Second, they will sing a 30 second cut of a song of their choice to demonstrate facial expression and vocal flexibility. These auditions will happen during a number of FIT sessions.
